USING A SIMPLE TWO-GOOD MODEL WITHIN A GENERAL EQUILIBRIUM FRAMEWORK, THE AUTHORS OFFER CALCULATIONS SHOWING THE EFFECT OF INCREASING CONCENTRATION IN THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX. RESULTS INDICATE THAT REDUCING CONCENTRATION IS LIKELY TO HAVE LITTLE IMPACT ON THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX.
The surging interest in the problems of human capital has given rise to the application of empirical analysis to evaluate the benefits from Sch'ing. The purpose is to measure the effect of additional Sch'ing on income in various regions in the US & to obtain some rough estimate of the benefit-cost ratio of investment in Sch'ing. The ultimate objective of the paper is to isolate, as much as empirically possible, the contribution of Sch'ing to income from the contribution of other factors such as capital per capita, race, location, etc. This objective is achieved by applying regression analysis to cross-sectional data using each state as a unit of observation. A secondary objective is to investigate whether Sch'ing in the North is of higher quality than Sch'ing in the South. Finally, given the results of the regression analysis, an attempt is made to compare the benefit of Sch'ing to its cost, & to point out the contribution of the study to the soc issue of public investment in the educ'al system.
